The Wales Rally GB is the UK round of the World Rally
Championship. The principal sponsor for this event is the Wales
Assembly Government.
Wales Rally GB, one of Wales' long standing flagship
events, has been exclusively hosted in the country since the year
2000. Over the past decade, the rally has evolved and in 2011
visited a far greater proportion of Wales than ever
before.
The rally provides an ideal platform for Wales to showcase
its capability in staging major sporting events on an annual basis
and the 30,000 people employed within its automotive manufacturing,
retail & maintenance sectors collectively with a turnover of £3
billion annually to the national economy. Wales is able to offer a
wide portfolio of technology organisations and academic
institutions currently working within the global automotive
arena.
The sports broadcasting experience of Comuniq8 Limited has
been contracted by the promoter of the event, International Motor
Sports to liaise with the global promoters, North One Sport to
monitor sponsor exposure in the TV coverage of the
event.
TV exposure of WRC has a global reach of over 570 million
homes across 180 countries.
Our role is to ensure that the Wales branding reflects
their title sponsor status as well as ensuring all other
opportunities for TV exposure are identified and fulfilled. These
include briefing notes for the TV commentators, procuring relevant
postcard footage for use in preview and review programmes, planning
of banner placements with TV crews and checking of on event
banner placements within the televised stages and main
spectator areas.
A new development in the TV coverage in 2011 was the
introduction of live TV coverage of the final stage of the event
where we again liaised with the producer and technical team to
ensure the Wales exposure as principal sponsor was
delivered.
